I am the chosen one

Hello there,

I'm not dead; I've just emerged from the rock I've been living under for the past month. I've been working hard as a temp for a company that manages low income housing in Boston. It has been quite an experience. To say the least, it has left a bitter taste in my mouth regarding welfare, its recipients, and organizations working with. I work in an office where the employees don't feel they have to treat the people they work with with any kind of dignity. Just because these individuals are poor and unemployed (some by choice other are victims of circumstances and many more have lived off of the system for so long that they can't fathom a world without it.), doesn't mean they need to be treated that way.
I'm trying to work two jobs so I can pay off my debt, save up, and move out by the end of September. Will see what happens. Inshallah I'll have an offer by the middle of September.

I'm employed (at least until Friday)

Hello loves!
The temp circuit has worked in my favor. Last week, I was asked to temp as an administrative assistant for a non profit org that manages low-income housing in Boston. It's an interesting job. It's challenging and different. Thus far, I've learned that I would never EVER want to have a permanent position as an administrative assistant. It's not stimulating enough for me. I guess I would do it if it paid well but that's really it. I've also learned that working for a ton of women is challenging and that some people will always be slackers! I'm off to bed so I can slave off all day tomorrow.

He's like a pinata but without the candy-LK♥

Hello, loves!

Before I get into anything else, I have to say that I love Lisa Kwan and I wish she would blog. This, my friends, was Lisa's comment's on a mutual friend's friend. Let's call him Bob. While we were talking about Bob, I told LK that there was something about Bob that I didn't like. Lisa responded by saying the above. This made my day 139823498934859458 better.

Anywho, we went to the ICA and checked out the Shepard Fairey exhibit. He is probably one of my favorite artist. He is most famous for his Hope and Progress portraits of President Obama. All his other work is fascinating. I'm most interested in his interpretations, understanding, and application of obedience (both positive and negative). I also love work on militancy, resistance, and his perception of crisis in the "global north" and "global south" respectively. Check out some of his work!

Yes we did!

This is a favorite. He focuses a lot on women...

Obey!

I love this!
Fun times were had by all. The evening ended with burritos, profoundness, and laughs. Lots of lots of laughs. I'm going to make it a point to find all of his graffiti around the city. I've already found one.
Bisous,
Estella♥

meh

The graduation high has worn. Yes, I was really excited to have graduated and whatnot but the realities of life have set in. Friends, I'm struggling. I'm tired, depleted, and not really sure what to do at this point. Four temp agencies later, I have lost all my optimism. I left school in December with this awesome plan: France in January, Tanzania from February-May. That fell through. CNR screwed me over galore. France happened and it was challenging. Beautiful but challenging. The choice to leave wasn't an easy one and it didn't always seem like the right one but I think it was. I needed the time off. However,I didn't work for four months. I enjoyed bumming around but too much free time is not always a good thing. It was difficult too but I dealt with it. I don't think I can deal with it again. I can't be unemployed for four more months. It will drive me crazy. I guess I'll just keep applying and hope someone recognizes how amazing I am? IDK...

In other news, the last two weeks have been interesting. A 4 hour trip that turned to 10 hours (The Odyssey), to seeing some awesomely bad/ugly drag queens, being serenaded by a crackhead, watching a Macy's associate attempt to get two foreigners (I knew this because they clearly only spoke/understood Spanish and she, said associate, only knew English) and screw up their credit because she was trying to get her commission rather than leave them alone because they didn't understand what they were signing up for, and finding trashy novels such as Zane and company in the African American section amongst the works of James Baldwin, Richard Wright, Maya Angelou, and Zora Neale Hurtson. I didn't get that at all. I guess it hasn't been boring at all. If only I could find a job...
